How to calm nerves before your boudoir shoot

“Don’t ever doubt yourselves or waste a second of your life. It’s too short, and you’re too special.”

~Ariana Grande

So you’re a little bit nervous about your upcoming boudoir session? Well, don’t be because I am going to share how to calm your nerves before your boudoir shoot! First of all your boudoir session will be lots of fun. Second, you are not only going to feel super sexy and walk away with some of the most amazing images of yourself, but you are also going to look back and be like “why the heck was I nervous?”

Dig deep

Ask yourself why you are nervous. Are you worried about posing? Don’t be! I am going to show you how to do everything even down to pointing your toes. I am a posing expert and will pose you in the most flattering way for your body type. We will discuss what assets you want to highlight and which parts you want to conceal. Worried about what to wear? Don’t be! I have an extensive prep guide to help you pull everything together which leads me to the next point…

Prepare for your session

Preparing for your boudoir session can help ease nerves by giving you something to focus on and look forward to. Like that beautiful Honey Birdette lingerie that makes you feel like a million bucks! Imagine how good you feel in it and how amazing the photos will look. Getting a mani/pedi is for sure super relaxing so be sure to get pampered a bit before your shoot.

Ooh La La Champagne

Still a little nervous? One way to calm your nerves is to bring some Champagne or your favorite wine to enjoy while you are having your hair and makeup styled. Champagne will also make for a fabulous photo prop during your shoot.

Bring a Friend

Another way to calm your nerves is to bring a friend to your session. Someone that makes you laugh or someone you trust completely. I know it can be a bit nerve-racking to meet your photographer for the first time but after you are finished with hair and makeup we will seem like old friends.

Practice Makes Perfect

Practice some facial expressions in the mirror before your session. This will make you more confident in your pouty look or your brilliant smile. Try out a sweet smile showing no teeth but smiling with the corners of your mouth. Also like Tyra says “Smile with your eyes”! There is not a sexier smile than this. So go get in the mirror and get your sexy on!

Reassure yourself

Sometimes we let our thoughts get the best of us. Stop telling yourself you are not good enough or skinny enough or sexy enough because YOU ARE! Approach your boudoir photoshoot with some positivity instead by practicing a few self-love mantras. Here are a few of my favorites:

  • “I am confident and comfortable in my body”
  • “I am worthy and I am enough”
  • “Just breath. All will be okay”
  • “I and beautiful and sexy”
  • “I am strong. I am fearless. I am empowered”
  • “My flaws are what makes me unique and beautiful”
  • “I don’t need to be perfect to be worthy of love”
  • “I am capable of anything I put my mind to”
  • “These photos will empower me”
  • “I am unique, no one else is me and that’s my superpower”

Remember your “Why”

When your nerves start to creep in remember “why” you are doing your boudoir shoot. No matter what the reason, whether to gift your beautiful photos to your husband or to change the way you see your body, remember to think about your “why” and put your focus there. It will help you relax and look forward to seeing the photos.

Trust us

Last but not least, the most important thing is to trust your photographer, trust the process, and trust that we are here for you to make your photoshoot the very best experience with the most amazing outcome. Your session will be fun and by the end of your shoot, you will probably wish it was not over. You may even start planning your next fabulous boudoir session! During your shoot time will fly by and before you know it you will be back home anxiously excited to see the outcome. So there you have it: How to calm your nerves before your boudoir shoot. We can’t wait to see you for your session!
