HOW TO PREP & PRIME YOUR SKIN FOR A PERFECT BOUDOIR PHOTOSHOOT

Radiating self-love and confidence in a photo doesn’t always come so naturally, which is why it’s important to spend some time practicing self-care strategies before your scheduled Boudoir photoshoot. Small self-care activities like your skincare routine can not only serve to support your well-being but also help you effortlessly fall back in love with yourself, making it easier for you to feel more sure of how you look and become photo-ready.

So, as you prepare for your next Boudoir photoshoot session, remember to embrace skincare as a form of self-care! The prep and prime process can be simple, just follow these three steps!

  1. Switch to Gentle Cleansers

The week leading up to your photoshoot is no time to test out new heavily fragrant products or harsh beaded cleansers that are formulated with other harmful skincare ingredients. Believe it or not, it’s actually the complete opposite.

As you get photo-ready, it’s better for you to reach for more gentle products, namely your everyday cleanser. A common skincare mistake is using a cleanser that is too harsh for your skin as this can lead to inflammation, irritation, and other worsening skin conditions.

Along with using a gentle cleanser, you should also try replacing your makeup remover wipes with cleansing oil or balm. These alternatives are equally as effective in removing makeup, dirt, and other impurities from your skin, the only difference is that they’re formulated without harsh chemical ingredients. Even for those of you with oily or acne skin, these types of cleansing products can prove to be efficient and beneficial for the skin, especially when paired with another daily foaming face wash.

2. Exfoliate

Regardless of whether your skin is oily or dry— exfoliating on a weekly basis is a must. Exfoliating is an essential skincare step for photoshoot preparation as it works to remove dead cell buildup from the surface of your skin and expose the fresh, healthy layer underneath. This, in turn, helps to soften your complexion and improve the overall texture of the skin— two factors that are critical for a smooth makeup application.

So while the number of times you perform this skincare ritual may vary depending on your skin type, it’s important not to overlook this step in the days leading up to your Boudoir photoshoot.

For best practice, be sure to exfoliate between two to three times per week— again, depending on how dry or oily your skin may be during this time. If you notice any irritation or dryness occurring, stop performing this step immediately, and instead, replace it with another restorative skincare ritual, such as a renewing sheet mask or a balancing pH toner.

3. Plump & Hydrate Your Skin

No matter what age you are, it’s important that prior to your shoot, you dedicate some time to plump and hydrate your skin as both of these factors play a critical role in capturing your youthful glow.

To do this, you should first consider introducing anti-aging skincare in your current regimen. Using wrinkle-fighting products—whether it be an anti-aging face cream or a hyaluronic acid serum— is a great way to ensure your face is looking fresh come time for the photoshoot as these types of treatments are specifically designed to target and treat any developmental signs of aging.

Aside from properly treating the problem areas with anti-aging skincare, it’s also a good idea to purchase a face moisturizer or lotion and apply it as one of the last steps of your morning and evening regime. This will serve to further replenish your skin, making for an even more nourished-looking complexion come time for the photoshoot with Boudoir.
