Are you considering doing a bridal boudoir session for your groom’s gift? You will probably be in the best shape of your life for your wedding so why not take advantage and have a sexy bridal boudoir shoot done for yourself and as a bonus for your groom’s gift! Double score!
The Ulimate Guide to Bridal Boudoir
- It is best to schedule your bridal boudoir session at least 6 to 8 weeks prior to your wedding. This will give you plenty of stress-free time to pick your images and get your photos in time for the big day.
- A few days before your photoshoot – pamper yourself! Have a Mani/Pedi, get your hair trimmed/colored, have a bikini wax, and throw in a massage for good measure.
- Drink lots of water to keep your skin looking fresh and glowing – seriously this really works! Plus it helps with bloating.
- Your wedding veil will make for some very sexy photos. Whether you match it up with lingerie or bare it all underneath, this is a must-have on your boudoir portrait day. If you don’t have your veil yet you can borrow one from your bridal boutique or buy tulle to use as a substitute veil.
- Bring your wedding lingerie or what you plan to wear on your wedding night.
- Your wedding shoes. I mean really who wouldn’t want to wear their wedding heels as much as possible.
- Wedding dress accessories such as your sash, headpiece, jewelry, garter. Anything bridal is a great idea!
- Bring something of his. It can be one of his favorite shirts or maybe even another gift you plan to give him. His wedding band can make for some really sweet photos, plus he would never expect it.
- Bring your groom’s wedding shirt and tie. If he is renting his tux or suit drop by the rental and ask to borrow the same items for your photoshoot.
- Don’t spray tan, even though you really want to, it does not always translate well in photos.
- Have a bouquet made for your shoot or pick up fresh flowers. Usually, your florist can make a smaller version of your wedding day bouquet for a fraction of the cost. Or you can bring a store-bought bouquet.
- Bring panties or a t-shirt that says Mrs or bride on it. Or have something made with your new last name.
- Wedding day signs that say “soon to be Mrs” or “Mrs” can be a fun photo prop.
When a client books with me I send them my Beauty Prep Guide which has a whole section on bridal boudoir. If you are a Couture Boudoir client you are in good hands!

Let’s stop letting the media dictate how we feel about our bodies and let’s redefine the cultural conversation around beauty by showing the world just how beautiful we are! As women, we are always comparing ourselves to what we see in magazines and advertising. Always trying to strive for that perfect look and size. Thank goodness more and more brands are starting to be more inclusive with REAL body types.
Redefine the cultural conversation around beauty
Sports Illustrated Swimsuit celebrated a diverse group of women who include professional athletes, entrepreneurs, models, mothers, rookies, and swim search contestants. Its annual Miami runway show which collectively rounds out this remarkable group of authentic and aspirational women- has become the go-to show during swim week in Miami.
Sports Illustrated held their annual fashion show on Saturday, and it’s safe to say that their catwalk at Miami swim week featured quite an inclusive crew.

With a mission to “redefine the cultural conversation around beauty,” the brand had women of all shapes and sizes strut their stuff down the runway, marking what’s possibly their most inclusive event to date!

Among those to walk down the runway was rookie Kathy Jacobs. “This is what runway domination at 57 years old and 5’2” tall looks like on the surface,” she captioned her Sunday, July 11, Instagram post. “What you don’t see are the years of hundreds of rejections, discipline, heartbreak, and balls to the wall perseverance behind what it took to be in this short video! Fake it till you make it. If you fall down get back up and try again!”
Jacobs wasn’t the only new face that hit the runway. She was joined by Saje Nicole, who, according to her modeling profile wears a size 10-12. The Turks and Caicos-born beauty took to Instagram earlier in the week, to share her excitement about being a part of the Sports Illustrated family.
Others to walk the runway include personal chef Chelsea Heath, plus-size model Amanda Kay, and model Natalie Gage.
Gage, for her part, took to Instagram to explain the appreciation she has for her body. “Regardless of what size I’ve been, I’ve always had a resounding love and respect for my body. Full acceptance of every inch of my body inside and out,” she wrote.
Canadian-born Amanda is one of several curve models to make the cut at this year’s show. She grew up all over the world, moving with her family to Jordan, Egypt, England, Abu Dhabi, and Dubai. The model looked stunning as she walked the runway in a pink satin swimsuit followed by a snakeskin bikini paired with a bright orange dressing gown.
“I started my modeling career later in life because I kept making excuses as to why I wasn’t good enough, she previously wrote on Instagram. I hope I can show anyone out there who is scared or has reservations to just go for it. Amazing things can happen if you put yourself out there and I’m proof of that. I’m so excited for what’s to come and all the amazing people I’m going to meet along the way.”

Boudoir and beauty
Are you ready to redefine the cultural conversation around your beauty? Contact me for information on an empowering boudoir photoshoot.
Boudoir photo sessions provide a platform for women to break out of the shackles of patriarchy. You can communicate your insecurities about your body to the photographer. We will guide the photo session in such a manner that you emerge feeling confident about those insecurities.
For many women, this is an experience that is truly the best way to see yourself in a new light. This empowering experience helps you shed all the false ideas society has built around your body.
One of the number one comments I hear from potential boudoir clients is that they are nervous before their boudoir photo shoot. I thought it would be helpful to share boudoir advice from previous clients about their experiences. Sometimes hearing other women’s stories or suggestions can help put you at ease before your very own session.

10 women share boudoir advice from their experiences
Advice from KL:
Plan ahead! Buy a few pieces of new lingerie for your photoshoot. Follow the prep guide. It will save you so much time and headache over worrying about what to bring. It really explains everything. Critsey will tell you to eat something the morning of your shoot because the shoot is like a workout. She is not kidding! I wish I would have eaten more but I was worried about looking bloated but now I know how silly that was.
Advice from JD:
The mistake I made was not scheduling my photo session around my time of the month! I was so embarrassed to need to reschedule because my periods are super heavy. Critsey was so kind and understanding. My other advice would be to buy a lingerie set that you normally wouldn’t wear. I had never worn a garter and thigh highs in my life but purchased the full set for my shoot and it was by far my favorite outfit (and now my husband’s too!) Don’t sweat being nervous, it is much easier than you think. I had so much fun at my session and I can’t wait to do another one. Oh, and I highly recommend booking Critsey. She is an absolute dream to work with.
Advice from TM:
I was really nervous about my session but preparing for it helped me get excited and calm my nerves. Be sure to Hydrate, exfoliate and get a mani/pedi. And do the damn session! Just do it!!! It is empowering! It will make you feel amazing. I am an introvert and if I can do it so can you! Do it girl! You got this!
Advice from BR:
Plan a date night on the day of your session because you will love your hair and makeup and why not go out on the town looking hot! As for advice for the session itself, Critsey really covers everything in her beauty guide so I cannot add much more. The best boudoir advice I can give is to trust the process and to have fun! You will love the photos!
Advice from BWH:
Whatever you’re worried about will disappear behind Critsey’s lenses. Beyond her talent as a photographer, she has the unique ability to reveal the beauty you struggle to see. Take full advantage of the opportunity and go all in – buy the pretty things you always talk yourself out of purchasing, grab a glass (or two) of champagne, enjoy the beautiful hair and makeup session before the shoot, and trust the artists. It’s magical!
Advice from AK:
I would highly recommend anyone to do a boudoir session with Critsey. She was amazing at giving me all sorts of direction, was very professional, and obviously has TONS of experience in her field. Thank you for making this 48-year-old woman feel like a sexy goddess!!
Advice from LR:
Read everything Critsey sends you! It will help you feel more relaxed and confident in doing your shoot. I was so nervous about the shoot and Critsey helped me see there was really not anything to worry about. She was amazing to work with and my photos are gorgeous!
Advice for EK:
I was really nervous before my session. Critsey made me so relaxed and I felt confident in myself quickly. I love my photos and I have a new appreciation for my body. If I can do it so can you! I can’t think of any advice that isn’t already in Critsey’s beauty guide. It was so helpful and literally full of great tips and suggestions for the photo shoot. Maybe one thing I can add is; You will love your hair and makeup so make plans that evening to go to dinner. I made last-minute plans to go out with friends and got so many compliments on my hair and makeup. I even booked the stylist to do my makeup again for our anniversary dinner this Fall.
Advice from LK:
Literally, do it, but only do it with Critsey, I am 100% absolutely certain no other boudoir photographer would have made me feel anywhere near as comfortable and would not have captured anywhere near as good pictures, nor edited them in a way that I could see the best version of myself but still feel like it was ME.
Advice from MH:
The photos will be creative and beautiful – just take a breath and let Critsey do her magic. Critsey is incredibly prompt and helpful with all questions throughout the process. I cannot recommend her enough! My best advice is to relax and enjoy the experience!

I hope you found this boudoir advice helpful! When you book with me you will also receive my Beauty Prep Guide. It is filled with so much great information on how to prepare for your photoshoot. In the meantime, if you have any questions please check out my FAQ Page.

Paris is one of those cities that draws people from all over the world to experience the rich history, architecture, and stunning atmosphere that is the city of light and love. Walking through the streets of Paris is an experience in itself, celebrate yourself with a boudoir shoot. Creating and documenting these incredible memories for a lifetime to come. Are you ready for a uniquely empowering experience in Paris France? Don’t worry if you do not speak French, I am an American English-speaking boudoir photographer shooting abroad.
OOH LA LA PARIS
Experiences like a boudoir shoot in Paris are what we look back on later in life and treasure. You will never forget that time you flew to France to live out your dream of sashaying down Parisian streets dressed to the nines before retiring to an apartment filled with Parisian charm to capture yourself at your sexiest and most alluring. With the help of your photographer of course! No experience on how to pose or pout is required. Wink wink!
My main goal when photographing my clients is to help them find their feminine power. Just like men have this aura of masculinity and find pride in that, I feel women should not be made to feel ashamed of their sensuality. We are all sexual beings or we would not be here. There is so much healthy power in feeling confident in your body.

Let’s talk more about Bridal Boudoir. Just because it is a wedding gift does not mean you have to only wear white or make the whole session about bridal. This is a great time to bring multiple outfits in different styles and colors.
What to wear
Bring things right out of your own closet such as a see-through blouse, an oversized sweater, a thin t-shirt. And maybe a few things that belong to your guy – his favorite button-down, his football jersey, his favorite T-shirt. Anything of his you think would make for a great photo.
Yes, of course, bring your wedding lingerie, your bridal heels, and jewelry but don’t forget to mix things up and bring some sexy outfits that will blow him away. This will make your photo album diverse and have a lot of variety.
If you aren’t wearing lingerie under your wedding dress then bring what you plan to wear on your wedding night. Some other ideas include bringing a variety of white/cream lingerie such as a bustier and/or corset. White/cream garter belt and thigh highs.
Not everything you bring needs to be bridal. Bring a variety of colors and styles of lingerie to mix it up. Your album can start with your bridal look and end with your other style of lingerie.
Prep for your session

ALL BOUDOIR SESSIONS INCLUDE
I love when clients do a second, third and fourth session. Why not right! Ms. K did a second shoot for her anniversary and to celebrate herself and she knocked it out of the park!
Here’s what she had to say…
“I had a boudoir session with Critsey to celebrate our 15 year wedding anniversary and my 46th birthday. I had a bridal boudoir session 15 years earlier so was nervous about competing with my younger self!
The beauty guide was extremely detailed and helpful so I was fully prepared to go into my day. While I was anxious upon arrival, I was truly surprised by how comfortable I became throughout the session. Critsey demonstrated each pose which felt awkward at first, but I felt like a supermodel by the end.
I could not be more pleased with how my photos turned out and definitely credit Critsey for giving my younger self a run for her money! Ms. k”

This is the sweetest note. I am truly honored to be a service to such amazing women!
“My husband practically had to pick himself up off the floor after seeing the final product of my shoot. His final comment was the most important to me: he was so happy to receive photos with such skill and personalization, but he was happiest that I did something like this for me and that i felt the confidence to choose to do this for both of us.
The extensive Beauty Guide of pointers and suggestions was so spot on and alleviated a lot of my fears/concerns. I’m a planner, and your ability to predict what questions may pop up was so professional and comforting at the same time. If every woman could have a shot at something like this with elegant sexy hair and makeup, demonstration of poses and easy small talk, I think all women would walk around like models. Xoxo Caroline”
I know it can be tricky finding oh so perfect outfits to wear for your boudoir shoot so today I am sharing some inspiration on what to wear. This lovely set is by Agent Provocateur and includes a matching garter belt. You can always mix and match by not wearing the garter belt for some photos and/or not wearing stockings.
When looking for lingerie be sure to try everything on together to insure the perfect fit. This includes trying on stockings with your set to be sure they are the correct size.
When you book with Couture Boudoir you will receive my ultimate Beauty Guide filled with tips and wardrobe suggestions. It covers a lot on choosing the best outfits for your photo shoot.
Over the years I have added so many wardrobe suggestions to my Beauty Guide and wanted to share a recent update that is super fun and not the standard white shirt. Bring his favorite shirt no matter if it is a worn-out T-shirt to a rustic flannel, and I can promise he will adore you in it.

I have a BEAUTY GUIDE that will be sent to you upon booking. It has many great tips and wardrobe suggestions for your session. It will help you prepare for the session and give you a list of wardrobe items that may help with problems areas that may not be easily retouched. If you have any questions about retouching please contact me anytime.
On your portrait day I will share a more detailed version of “Before & After Retouching” slideshow on my iPad.
My stylist is amazing and will consult with you on whether you want a soft natural look or something more dramatic.
The stylist will enhance your natural beauty and not cover it up. If you have beautiful freckles you do not need to worry about us making you look photoshopped or like you have caked on makeup. (with that said we do get requests for freckles and moles to be removed, that is not a problem either.)
Before & After Retouching
Oh gosh! Don’t we all have our own little problem areas we hate. Just know whatever that may be it can be magically removed or made less pronounced. I will not retouch to be a different person. I only retouch the things we don’t always notice in real life but photos can make stand out more.
Images below are cropped to best display retouched areas.

It’s completely normal if you feel nervous leading up to your boudoir session. While it’s easier said than done, it’s important to remind yourself why you gravitated toward this type of photoshoot. Boudoir photos are an empowering way to celebrate your body and build confidence!

Here are five boudoir confidence hacks that you can use to build self-confidence for your upcoming session:
1. Positive Self Talk
The way you speak to yourself matters. Many women have the misconception that they should lose weight before a boudoir shoot — that’s absolutely not true! Everybody deserves to be celebrated. The well-deserved celebration of everything your body has supported you through has nothing to do with your size.
A part of the brain (RAS) takes the positive affirmations you say to yourself and makes them a part of your identity, so you truly believe what you’re saying. Whether you say these things internally or externally, I recommend seeing how you feel after telling yourself the following statements: I am beautiful. I profoundly and deeply accept myself. My body should be celebrated throughout every stage of my life. Remind yourself to practice self-compassion. You deserve it.
2. Let Go Of What Society thinks
The first and foremost reason why women choose boudoir sessions is to feel empowered. Society puts this pressure on women to look and feel a certain way about their bodies. It is always trying to subdue our desires and wishes to express ourselves in a feminine and natural way. Boudoir sessions offer an opportunity to unleash all those inner feelings and truly let us be empowered.
You can stop caring about what the world thinks and instead focus on how beautiful you are. Give yourself the chance to experience a boudoir session and see how it boosts your confidence.
3. Your Outfits Should Make You Feel Good
While you always look beautiful and are worthy of self-love and acceptance, you will feel more confident on the day of your session if you plan your outfits accordingly. I recommend trying on your outfits to determine which ones you feel flatter your body the best. If you feel confident in your outfits, the camera will capture that inner confidence!
4. Create a Playlist
One of the main reasons many women feel nervous before and during their boudoir session is because they’re unsure of how to pose. I recommend creating a playlist of all the songs that make you feel sexy and confident! You’ll feel much more fluid and comfortable during your shoot if you listen to music that hypes you up. Leave the rest up to me as I will show you how to pose and coach you through the entire session.
5. Choose the Right Photographer
Choosing the right photographer always makes a massive difference, but this is especially true for boudoir photography because it’s an intimate type of photography. If you’re looking to book a boudoir photography session with an experienced boudoir photographer who will guide you through the whole empowering experience, don’t hesitate to contact me.
Summing up…
Women book boudoir sessions to celebrate various occasions and milestones. It can be a birthday, an anniversary, a wedding, or just because you freaking deserve it! These sessions document a piece of you that you will always want to remember especially as the seasons of your life grow and change. I hope these 5 boudoir confidence hacks were helpful!
